Durability of quartz countertops
- Dec 12, 2021-

As a hard-wearing stone, quartz can cause stains, but if cleaned properly, this should not be a problem.

A major drawback you should know, and which explains the durability of quartz countertops, is the relative ease of maintenance. Not only is it much easier to remove stains from them, but it is also much easier to protect them from stains. I have already mentioned that quartz consoles are man-made, as they are not heat resistant, and that is one of the main reasons why they are not so durable.

The quartz worktop is man-made and consists of quartz crystals connected to resin. It is made from the same quartz crystal that is also found in quartzite, but it is also considered a engineered stone, as quartz is also natural and the surface is made by using crushed quartz crystals in combination with pigment and resin to join the crystals. Quartz stone retains much of its hardness by combining the resin with quartz on the worktop. Since quartz is made by man, it goes through a man-made process that binds the crystal so that it cannot be produced otherwise.

Quartz is even more durable than granite, as it is even less prone to splinters, requires only occasional re-sealing and is more than twice as hard as granite.

You will not only appreciate the appearance of quartz, but will also find it to be considerably easier to maintain than marble and natural stones, which require special sealants and can be very fine in care. One difference to quartz is that you have to re-seal granite and not very often. There is a good chance that your quartz countertops will not need to be sealed, so you are less likely to need them than with granite.
